I Did It!

I did it! I finally succeeded at making a nice soft sourdough sandwich bread! I mastered the art of soft and fluffy non-soaked whole wheat bread years ago. I make a wonderful ciabatta and some artisan style breads, but, soft sourdough sandwich bread has eluded me. I cannot count the amount of bricks I have made in the last several weeks. Sour tasting bricks! Barely even good enough for French Toast! Now that is bad.

Pictured here are one of the bricks I made today and one of the dreamy loaves I made. I literally jumped up and down with excitement. I don’t like to fail and was determined to keep going. Just this morning, my son questioned why I just don’t give up.

This is why!! Sweet success! He was not questioning anymore after trying a slice slathered with butter!

This is the recipe that finally worked for me, though I am pretty sure it was me, not the recipes ;-) I was trying to make it by hand and continued to fail. I found a recipe that uses a Kitchen-Aid, so I new I could make it in my Bosch.

I did it, Cindy! Yeah!

Well, shut the front door! That is one beautiful loaf of sourdough bread! I can't wait to give this another try. I don't like to fail either, and you can have just so many croutons out of failed loaves before the kitchen is over-run! My life will be a bit simpler now that the wedding of our dear friends daughter is over. Kitchen time, here I come!

Congratulations! I used to make bricks out of whole wheat until I started skipping the 'second rising' step. Then again, I've never made sourdough. There are few things better than bread, right out of the oven with LOTS of real butter!

Congratulations from someone who is still in the "brick phase" of breadmaking! Woo-hooo!

Thanks for posting this. I manage to make a regular loaf of whole wheat bread no problem, but my attempts at sourdough have also resulted in bricks. I will give this recipe a try.

Hi Mrs. Gryzbowski!
Congratulations on the bread! The whole wheat bread I make is perfect(I'm not bragging, it's just that we have an awesome recipe), but I have never attempted to make sourdough...Since sourdough is my dad's favorite, I will try this new recipe and surprise him!

Have a blessed Sunday!
