OPEN YOUR EYES, SHELBY!

I adore the movie Steel Magnolias. Brian and I have so many 'one liners' that we use from this movie. Like, 'here, hit Weeza' or 'you're too twisted for color TV'. Our favorite, though, is when Sally Field's daughter, Shelby, is in a coma and during an emotional ourburst she begins yelling, "open your eyes, Shelby, Shelby, open your eyes, open your eyes!" Crazy as it might seem, we say this quite often. Whenever we are telling someone to open their eyes we always throw in there, "open your eyes, Shelby" I know, we are so weird!

Why do I tell you all this not so pertinant information? I am glad you asked. We finally watched Food Inc. and I am wanting to shout from the rooftops, "OPEN YOUR EYES, SHELBY!!!" We are being duped and we don't even realize it!

I am pleading with you to watch this movie with your family. Watch it for school if you home school. Fit it in whenever you can.

As you know, encouraging others to feed and nourish their familes well is a huge passion of mine, and I just know if you all watched this movie it would forever change the way you purchase food and feed your family. I think it is so vitally important to see where our food comes from! Please, I am begging you to watch this movie. I know many library systems have it. It is available on Amazon for a good price. You can even 'rent' it for only $2.99 on Amazon. I am sure video stores have this for rent. If I could, I would buy them by the box and send them to everyone I know. That is how important I feel this is!

Go to Food Inc. The Movie and watch the trailor.

Please let me know when you watch this or if you have any questions or comments! Please believe me when I say this is important!

SO glad you have jumped on the bandwagon. This is one of the most important movies ever made. I want to shout it from the housetops...WATCH THIS MOVIE. KNOW where your food is coming from! We are now doing everything we can to make sure we know our food comes from a reliable source. We have a freezer full of stuff that we need to eat through, but as the need arises, we will definitely be buying with a whole new different mind set. This movie brought me to tears and just plain pissed Pete off. (pardon my French) We make changes with every item we purchase and every bite we take.
We need to take control, before big govt takes any more of it from us.

I've actually looked over this movie at our library, but I didn't really know what it was about- so I didn't get it.
We'll definitely pick it up! I'm always looking for healthy eating info! Thank you!

This is a great film! I encourage all my readers to watch it... and all my friends... and all my family. It is quite an eye opener, just like you said.

Love and peace, ae

My husband and I watched Food, Inc. about a year ago, on YouTube. I'm going to watch it again as a refresher.

I'm thankful for a husband who supports healthy eating. I make most our foods from scratch, but sometimes buy store-bought 12 grain bread. I'm just learning about Nourishing Traditions (just ordered the book) so more changes are about to be made.

Michelle, I've been learning so much from your posts on healthy eating. I just found a farm that sells grass fed beef and I made my own yogurt and yogurt cheese from organic milk the other day. But I get so angry that we have to pay so much more money for food that has been grown and prepared the way God intended it to be. For example, you cannot legally buy raw milk anywhere in Canada, although many states allow it.

I just bought a carton of whipping cream from the supermarket. It didn't taste the way I remember cream tasting (haven't bought it in ages). My jaw dropped when I read the ingredients--yes, ingredients!! Wouldn't you think it would just include cream? No, it contained dextrose, carrageenan, cellulose gum, polysorbate 80, sodium citrate, and disodium phosphate...GRRR! Keep spreading the word!

Ladies, after you watch it I would love to hear some of your thoughts on what we can do, like 'voting' with each purchase, seeking local farms, refusing to purchase the junk, never eating at a fast-food joint again, I mean EVER! Okay, really, I was looking for your thoughts ;-)

Mrs. T, I bet it was 'ultra-pasturized' too! What happened to "cream", just cream!? Do they not have 'cow-shares' in Canada? That is how we get around the legality of it.

Michelle,
You might want to let your readers know it's on Netflix...to rent or watch instantly! (Which we'll be doing in the near future!)

I watched it instantly via our Netflix subscription. It hit me hard. I am needing for my husband to watch it too. It is not friendly on a budget to switch to organic but I am easing us into it. I am looking into buying meat from my uncle who raises beef for his hometown resturant. I think that will help. Its good to know other families are getting on the wagon. Maybe we really can make a difference.

Oh, fast food is the worst. DH has a weakness for it, but not any more! This month he added up how much we spent on it-
$115.00!
I know! That really made him think. We got 'Food Inc.' and we'll be watching it tonight. Will probably have a post about it on my blog.
What is 'Nourishing Traditions' about? Does it have any information on which foods help the immune system, etc.? I know you must be busy Michelle, but if you could email me a little information about it, I would appreciate it! I'm considering buying it on amazon, but nobody really gave it a helpful review, and it's a little expensive.
Here's my email if you have the time- dansheartismine@gmail.com
Thank you!

Wow. I've put it in my cart on Amazon. I'm going to ask my husband if we can get it tonight. He may want to watch it sooner though so we might be watching it through the 2.99 deal. Have you seen Super Size Me? The man does an experiment where he eats nothing but McDonald's for 30 days. It's phenomenal what his body goes through.

Michelle, Thanks for mentioning this I will have to see if I can locate a copy.

I'm looking forward to watching this. We are also trying to eat more naturally. I blogged about natural food coloring a couple of days ago:)
