I have dabbled into the sourdough world off and on this past year. I have had many failures and few successes.
I let my sourdough starter die months ago and was recently missing it. I really wanted to make the English Muffins that I used to make and just love. Well, God heard the longings of my heart and had my dear friend Cindy call me with some of her extra starter. She remembered that I loved to make the English Muffins and that I had mentioned my starter had died. Isn't she sweet? Thanks, friend!
Do you see how beautiful these loaves are? I don't want to cut into them, I almost don't care how they taste! I think I just want to leave them in a basket and look at them. Don't worry, nobody here will allow such foolishness.
This is the Sourdough Rye recipe that is beyond easy to make.
This link is for the No-Knead Sourdough version. Also so easy. I had to make them both.
Lest you think things always go smoothly around here, just Thursday I made the most perfect sourdough bricks, I mean bread that I used for quite tasty croutons on last night's salad. Never give up, that's my motto ;-)

Those loaves are gorgeous! You should save just one and shellack it and put it on display!
I have never had any success with baking bread, no matter how many times I try. The time my husband broke his tooth on a loaf that I had made (sourdough), I said, "that's it!" That homemade loaf cost me $82, by the time the dentist got through with my husband! But, I'd still like to make that sourdough.
Hey I am impressed! I am so NOT a bread maker or even a baker. But I LOVE Sourdough bread. Lynnette is the bread maker of the family.
I might look up the recipe and give it to her! ((smile))
ok, you are giving me some hope back. lol I just made a sourdough starter that made brick loaves of bread. It seemed like my started started great and even though I fed it daily it seemed to stop bubbling, etc. Maybe I will try it again soon. We are mostly gluten free. I grind my own grains and have been trying to add fresh ground grains (not just gluten free) and soak them. It would be wonderful to be able to make bread that every one can enjoy. Thanks for the encouragement. =0)
Wow Michelle! Impressive! I've dabbled in sourdough myself and decided I'm not very good at it. ha! You've inspired me to try again! I love sourdough!
Is it a yeast free sourdough?
Hope you're doing well!
Love,
Lynnette
